Registered Osteopath and Fine Tuner of Growing, Changing Bodies
Pregnancy is an exciting time, but for many expectant parent, the experience is not alway pure joy.
Even during the first trimester, the pelvis is already starting to make postural adjustments which can lead to discomfort and pain. Common complaints like rib pain, indigestions, hip and back pain often follow in the second trimester and continue to amplify as baby makes rapid weight gains in the third trimester. And of course, it is not just the "baby bump" changing! How you stand, sit, walk and move in general needs to change to accomodate this rapid change in body shape, and this process of accomodation is not always straightforward, especially if you are carrying previous injuries or have long standing issues. And that's not even mentioning the impact of hormonal changes or stresses of life that will keep happening while you are expecting. All of this can lead to discomfort, pain, anxiety and feeling like you are not quite yourself anymore. |
But we can help, you can share all your anxieties and concerns with total confidence in a supporting, understanding environment.
We will help with what we can, and signpost you to other services that may help, if we can't.
Osteopath Chloe Savage is our obstetric and paediatric specialist practitioner, having undergone a Diploma in Pediatric Osteopathy (DPO) at the prestigious Osteopathic Centre for Children (OCC) in London.
Expectant parents were also treated and included in the teaching curriculum at the OCC and Chloe gained valuable experience working part-time at the London clinic over a period of two years during her specialist training.
This course also included a rotation within Barnet Hospital's Neonatoal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where Chloe treated premature and severely ill babies under the supervision of some of the most experienced paediatric osteopaths in the UK.
Chloe is currently undergoing further training to include breast feeding support to her consultations to further help new parents beyond birth.
She also has a young daughter, giving her first-hand experience of the ups and downs of parenting a young child!
Of course, whilst pregnancy technically ends once you give birth, the services of an Obstetric Osteopath will continue to help after birth. Your posture will once more change very quickly, requiring yet more postural adaptation.
Upper body aches and pains are common when looking after a young child, from frequent feedings, picking them up, carrying them in your arms, etc. and we can help with all of that too!
If we have any concern that something is not quite as it should be, we will be discuss this with you, and we will be happy to liase with your GP or other health professional and refer you to their care.
Above all, we promise to treat you with care and compassion, just the way we would want to be treated.
