Cranial Osteopathy
Making things better the gentle way.

Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle yet powerful system of diagnosis and treatment developed in America in the early 1900s. It works by addressing stress and tension held deep within the body.

Based on the osteopathic principle of structural re-aignment, cranial osteopathy uses very gentle pressure to encourage the release of stresses and stains throughout the whole body (not only the head as the name implies).

Once the osteopath has found an area of strain or tension, they will start to apply gentle pressure to allow these structures to relax and therefore help bring the body back into a state of balance and health. During treatment some patients feel sensations of tension disappearing or releasing, some feel warmth and relaxation, others feel nothing at all but afterwards understand that something feels different. Overall cranial treatment should feel calm and relaxing.

Who is cranial osteopathy for?

Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle and subtle type of osteopathic treatment used effectively on people of all ages, but the gentleness of the approach often makes it an ideal choice for people who respond better to lighter forms of treatment or simply prefer a lighter approach. This may include the elderly, newborn babies and those suffering trauma or fatigue but we've used it equally successfully with high level executive, athletes and performers.

Cranial Osteopathy tends to have very little side-effects and is deeply relaxing, making it ideal for people who lead stressful lives.

Cranial osteopathy is often used to identify and treat injury patterns, both old and new, and is effective in assessing the knock-on effect of those traumas throughout the whole body. Old trauma patterns can often be identified and treated many years after the event.
